Small paintings can be a way into the larger ones for me but they stand alone too and fit in small spaces, so are attractive to buyers with limited wall space and to those who like to group paintings on a gallery wall.

The minis, are small paintings on paper, sealed, mounted and ready for you to frame.

I am not easy to please, so by the time I am satisfied with a painting, even a small one, it is a genuine comment from me to you.

After the inspiring feeling, thought or eye catching moment a painting begins with just enjoying the paint. I become lost in colour. The gestures happen and lines lead where they must. Then experience and understanding take their turns to balance and enhance what is there.

They express emotion and mood and say something about their owners as well as their makers. They enhance your living space with their magic for years to come until they become an inheritance.

Here you can see lots of reference to the watery lakes and the stream. The trees are collage strips and a glimpse of musical notation lifts the mood.

This painting is about the large pond at night, a magical moment. A fine liner and charcoal pencil make delicate suggestions.

Layout Sketching

A painting starts with a colour palette. That choice is probably determined by the weather and my mood. Line and composition are set up in charcoal or pastel. It is just a starting point.
